Remedy - to suppress or cure?

If a remedy is truly effective then it’s needed less and less over time. Eventually we’ll be thoroughly cured and done with it completely.
Anything required long term is not addressing the cause.
Obviously most pharmaceuticals fall into this category. The medicine band aide. Often prescribed long term or even forever, like blood pressure and cholesterol medication, antidepressants, hormone therapy, anti-inflammatories and pain killers. They mask symptoms rather than resolve them. No real surprises here.
Yet many people embrace seemingly healthy alternatives that effectively do the same thing – band aide the symptoms.
Ice baths to counter anxiety or depression for instance, is just a cover up.
Daily affirmations will fabricate happiness.
Breathwork for altered states.
Mindfulness to guard against reactivity.
Counselling that goes on for years.
Restricted diets to avoid particular food aggravations.
Meditation to ensure a calm demeanour.
Bulletproof coffee to charge up. Every single day. Maybe more than once.
The chiropractor on repeat.
Herbs, amino acids, probiotics…..
The list goes on and on.
To cure requires resolution of the core issue. At the deepest level of any ailment is an unresolved emotion. That goes for any physical or mental problem. There’s always a repressed emotional upset (often beneath our conscious awareness). These buried emotional glitches even predispose us to injury via accidents. Unlock the original emotional issue completely and symptoms are transformed. Often overnight.
Many of the options above can certainly be engaged to facilitate healing at that emotional depth. And in an effective application of the remedy or practice, it will soon become obsolete as it surfaces the emotion for resolution. But if not, the modality can easily become a (feel good) band aide. It seems effective if we feel better, but the true test is what happens when we stop.
The more truly healed we become, the less that’s required to maintain our state.
